We are constantly exposed to chemicals through products in our environment as well as foods and drinks we consume.  The body has its own detoxification methods for clearing out unwanted chemicals and compounds.

Detoxification occurs in two main phases: a series of reactions packages the toxins (Phase I), then transports them to be eliminated through secretory organs, such as the liver or kidney (Phase II). This series of events requires various nutrients to function efficiently. A proper detox program that supports both phases helps to optimize your body’s own detoxification pathways.

The perfect time to detox is after the holidays, since we tend to overindulge and in the process become addicted to junk food. A detox can help cut food cravings, get you back on track with a healthy diet, and help optimize your natural detoxification long-term:

  • Eliminate processed foods, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and reactive foods (dairy, gluten, and nuts)
  • Choose natural, whole foods that support detoxification (dark leafy greens, fresh fruits, artichokes, cabbage, etc.).
  • Drink plenty of water – half of your body weight in ounces of water daily
  • Take extra time to yourself. Try walking or gentle yoga, and make sure you’re sleeping well.
  • Choose a safe, scientifically-based nutrition program to gently support your natural detoxification pathways.
